Ashwin Vasan

Vice President | McLean | Harvard, Harvard Law School

Ashwin Vasan is a Vice President in the Strategy Group and is based in the McLean office.

Prior to Capital One, Ashwin spent five years at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), a federal agency responsible for consumer protection in the financial sector. At the CFPB, Ashwin served as Chief Information Officer where he oversaw the technology strategy of the Bureau, and the buildout of the agency’s technical infrastructure. Prior to serving as CIO, Ashwin was Senior Advisor to the CFPB Director, where he led a range of strategic and policy initiatives related to the standup of the agency.

Prior to the CFPB, Ashwin was an Engagement Manager at McKinsey & Company. At McKinsey, Ashwin led teams of clients across numerous sectors to evaluate and act on strategic challenges. His work ranged from advising the unwind of a large financial institution following its failure during the financial crisis to helping governments in the US and abroad improve their organizations. Prior to McKinsey, Ashwin had worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and the J-PAL Poverty Action Lab.

Ashwin has an AB in Physics from Harvard University, an MPhil in Economics from the University of Cambridge, and a JD from Harvard Law School. He lives in Washington DC with his wife and son.
